阴茎插入后，在阴茎抽动的刺激下，身体进一步兴奋，盆腔明显充血，阴道下段肌肉收缩，紧紧裹住阴茎（平台期）


　　在平台期的基础上，大约五至十分钟的时间(或是更长或更短的时间)可达到性高潮，表现为头面部及全身皮肤充血变红、双目轻合、表情愉悦、呼吸急促或伴有呻吟，心率超过100次／分，乳房耸立，乳头进一步胀大突起，大阴唇隆起向两侧外翻，小阴唇充血呈暗红色并向外突出，阴蒂变粗变长呈勃起状态，上拉至耻骨联合部，外阴部分泌多量稀薄透明液体，最根本的特征是阴道下段扩约肌、骨盆底部肌肉及全身骨骼肌不自主性、强有力地节律性收缩，热烈而强大的快感遍及全身，思维自然凝滞，全部意识都沉浸在性高潮的强烈快感和极度幸福之中。


　　最后是消退期，性高潮时的肌肉节律性抽动持续约5至30秒钟后渐渐自然停止。身体性反应的消退，如盆腔充血等，则在20至30分钟内逐步消退，身体恢复到平时的状态。
